A New Thing & An Old Thing

Pattern: My own. This started as a Scrunchable, but didn’t get too far. The 2nd 8*8 cable I attempted was about 3 8*8 cables too many. I decided to keep with the garter stitch theme from the beginning of the pattern but add 1 more knit round between each garter ridge as I moved toward the center, then one fewer after that. I had to rip it out and start over after I’d knit a few inches because it was way too big. I knew the 130-stitch cast-on from Scrunchable sounded on the big side but that the cables would pull it in, but I figured it would just be a little loose if I continued on 130 stitches without the cables. I was wrong. When I took it off the needles to try it on it could almost go around my neck twice (almost; not actually twice, which would have been fine). I started over on 80 stitches, which is the perfect size.
Yarn: Patons Classic Wool Merino in Gray Mix
Needles: 4.5 mm plastic 16″ circular

In other news, here’s something I finished a while back but that just got its first real introduction to the world on a walk downtown tonight:

blue raglan

Pattern: The Incredible Custom-Fit Raglan
Patons Classic Wool Merino in New Denim
4 mm & 3 mm circs (plastic & KP Harmony interchangeables)
Started: December 2007
Finished: May 2010
Half-finished & ripped out: About 5 times
Changes made: Maybe not officially changes, since this is a choose-your-own-adventure sort of pattern. I added waist shaping and did knitted hems for the sleeves and body. The body is not as long as I would like it and the sleeves aren’t fitted quite like I would prefer, but after 2.5 years of this sweater I was ready to call it done. It’ll do for throwing on to keep me warm on a chilly evening.
