The Weekend in Numbers

  • Days off: 3
  • Birthdays celebrated: 1 (Dan’s)
  • Good movies seen for the first time: 2 (Thor & Toy Story 3)
  • Good movies seen again for the first time in years: 1 (The Fugitive)
  • Projects finished: 0
  • New projects started: 2, both stripey, one of which will go a little something like this:

  • Projects abandoned temporarily: 1. The orange and blue knee socks are not going to fit. Knitting knee socks top-down is all well and good as long as you have a firm understanding of the size of your calves. Turns out I almost understood the size of my smaller calf. Starting over on larger needles soon, but not yet. I need time to get over these 8 inches of work.
  • Days spent cooking: 1.25
  • Total items/dishes prepared: 12. This weekend’s cooking results were most satisfying. I made smoked paprika pork tenderloin and potatoes; asiago, potato, and bacon gratin; chicken sausage calzones; veggie calzones; 4 quarts of tomato sauce; mushroom and toasted pine nut brown rice (to be served over roasted acorn squash and topped with the aforementioned tomato sauce); curried squash and cauliflower soup; apricot and almond baked oatmeal; and chili. About 8-9 hours yesterday and 2-ish today, and we’ll be eating for a week or two with minimal effort. I also have a few pounds of chopped onions, almost enough stems and ends for a pot of stock and a 2nd pork tenderloin in the freezer.
  • Total meals/servings ready to go in the fridge or freezer: 45, give or take a few.
  • Which reminds me – new appliances I haven’t shown you a picture of yet: 1. Meet Frederick. He’s actually from a few weekends ago. We’ve been getting along swimmingly.

  1. Green and pink are two of my favorite colors, so I heartily approve of the stripey whatevers.

All that food sounds *phenomenal!* My amazing cooking friends have inspired me to cook and bake more. Nom!

    1. The green & pink stripeys are coming along a bit now, and I’ll be excited when I can finally show what they’re going to be. As for the food, we’re STILL eating off this one batch of cooking. I didn’t do a thing this past weekend, so it was totally worth it!
